Description

In this article, a meeting where Dr. George Modlin spoke was summarized. After Dr. Modlin, the President of the University of Richmond, received a letter from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare's civil rights director, he was asked to comment on the contents that were addressed. Modlin was told that the university was not diverse enough and was given a list of guidelines that should be followed to achieve greater diversity and appear less as an "exclusive all-white Southern institution." The school faced the possibility of losing HEW funding if they didn't address the problem. Modlin noted that he would talk about it with the board.
