Description An account of the resource This article summarizes a discussion concerning the impact of race on social and academic life at the University of Richmond, led by a panel of two University students (Kim Green and Eric Freeman) and four alumni (Travis Williams, Tracy Jansen, Dexter Williams, and Heather Brown). The panelists conferred that the campus was in no way racially diverse or inviting to black students, and that it intended to create a homogenous environment in favor of white culture. For example, Green expresses that the only time students learn about black people is during Black History Month, and that there are very few classes about black culture. While the panelists detailed their experiences as black students on campus, Ben Bishoff, a freshman attending the discussion “said it was appalling to hear that only six non-athlete African-Americans attend the University.” Out of the six panelists who led the discussion, five stated that they would not come back to the University of Richmond if they had the chance to do it all over again.
