Description
An account of the resource
This <em>Collegian</em> feature is written by and about John Wai-Chun Loong, a Chinese international student majoring in business and music. Loong says that he had to break out of his comfort zone at the Heilman Dining Center and joined groups that celebrated diversity, such as a retreat camp called “Collegetown” and running for office in the Richmond College Student Government Association. Furthermore, Loong tried to start a table-tennis club and actively discusses the differences between Chinese and American culture in an attempt to curb harmful stereotypes about Asians. Loong calls upon the University of Richmond to become more open to potential friends. One way to accomplish this is by extending their “’mental safety zone’” when they decide with whom to sit in the dining hall.
