Both of these two groups have met with PFM representatives. During the first Westhampton College Food Service Committee, confusion surrounding dining hall hours, “unpleasant help,” the need to voice opinions and the need for more variety were discussed. James Cones, the president of SOBA at the time of the article, said, “you look around campus and you see blacks as janitors, and groundskeepers, as football players and basketball players, and that is not a true portrayal of black people.” Members of SOBA were involved in planning Black History Week, community service endeavors, and in the black church community. The main complaint of black students was the mere lack of numbers both in student body and faculty. 1976 was the first year that UR employed a full time black faculty member, Dr. Lorenzo Simpson.
