The article begins with a joke that student Brian Alas -- of Cuban-Irish descent -- receives due to his Cuban ancestry: Where is your tire? This joke refers to the stereotype that Cuban immigrants come to the U.S. in inner tubes. Both Alas and another student, Jeanette Lopez, were interviewed and discussed multiple topics. Both students agreed that they would rather be referred to by their hyphenated ethnicities (Cuban-American and Mexican-American), rather than "Hispanic." Furthermore, they would rather use the term "Latino" which specifically refers to Spanish speaking people and their descendants in North and South America.
