This effort to recruit some 40 minorities was spearheaded by Dr. Tinina Cade, the Director of Minority Affairs at the University of Richmond. She would go into the cIty of Richmond to find exceptional black students. She also believed that the best way to recruit minorities was to give the existing ones on campus a good experience. That way they will spread the word on how great the campus is for minorities. The article also presents Minority Awareness Weekend that is planned by the Minority Student Union.</text>

<text>This article reports on the "literally hundreds of obscene phone calls" that have been made to female residents of University of Richmond, according to University police department investigator, Henry Carr. Campus police Director Robert C. Dillard identified Lora Robins Court residents as the primary victims of the obscene phone calls, due to the residence hall's sequential number ordering. C&amp;P Telephone Co., the campus telephone provider, is described as working with the campus police to help end the problem. Dillard said that the calls included "psychotic threats" and "messages of hate," stating that if the callers were students "they need to be led from class to class on a chain." The article goes on to discuss other police reports, including two female students observing a female custodian wearing clothing "missing from each of the girls' washloads." A spokeswoman for Charlotte Fugett, the director of University Personnel, assured the newspaper that this custodian was placed on an involuntary leave of absence.</text>

The report stated that there was "significant improvement" in the hiring of more female faculty and staff. David Leary, the dean of arts and sciences at the time, said that this improvement was due to an effort made to increase the amount of women in the applicant pool. Emily Mitchell, a junior, expresses her favor of hiring more female faculty as she says the University should be representative of its population and at that point there were more women enrolled. Several aspects of the report have been discussed and are attempting to be implemented as a committee with the following subgroups was created; curriculum, teaching, sexual harassment, student life, and the status and recruitment of women faculty.</text>

The author attempts to account for the hostility surrounding the Little Rock situation by relating the struggle for racial equality to the history of the country itself. In the first part of the text, the author offers a brief synopsis of the Declaration of Independence against English domination. After the United States was established, ongoing work over time had to be done before the country gained recognition "as an equal." Next, the author describes advancements made by Black people after enslavement as "almost approach[ing] the spectacular." Finally, the author suggests the violence and resistance surrounding the Little Rock Nine is a repercussion of prejudices embedded deep within the American people. Just as it happened with the establishment of the United States, time and hard work will cause a shift in perspective and allow for equality.</text>

<text>This article published in <em>The Collegian</em> highlights the University of Richmond's Hispanic Heritage Month. The article begins with a joke that student Brian Alas -- of Cuban-Irish descent -- receives due to his Cuban ancestry: Where is your tire? This joke refers to the stereotype that Cuban immigrants come to the U.S. in inner tubes. Both Alas and another student, Jeanette Lopez, were interviewed and discussed multiple topics. Both students agreed that they would rather be referred to by their hyphenated ethnicities (Cuban-American and Mexican-American), rather than "Hispanic." Furthermore, they would rather use the term "Latino" which specifically refers to Spanish speaking people and their descendants in North and South America. Despite this, the author continues to use the term Hispanic. Alas and Lopez describe their unique experiences as Latinos; Alas recounts how he was treated differently by fellow Latinos because of his white appearance while Lopez states that, because of political debates on illegal immigrants, her status has been questioned. In addition, Lopez also notes that she has faced judgement from all cultures for not being able to speak Spanish. The article goes on to compare the population sizes of black people and Latinos, relations between the two ethnic groups, and the desire to see more activities and celebrations of Latin-American heritage.</text>
