Emanuel that is about the struggle between Native American Indians and white men over a period of 200 years. According to the director Ron Vigneault, “The overall effect is to poignantly illustrate the domination and conquest of the red race.” Although only 11 cast members are featured in the play, they portray “nearly 150 characters though song, dance, mime and music” according to the Collegian. The 1975-76 season of the University Players focused on plays portraying issues of racial tensions and colonialism such as “The Teahouse of the August Moon.”</text>

The play focuses on an officer of the Army of Occupation stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the post-World War II U.S. occupation and satirizes the Americanization of Okinawa.
