An account of the resource
This reports on an event called "Hands Around the Lake," which was part of Founder's Week and held in the Cannon Memorial Chapel. The event attracted a "moderate-sized crowd composed of students and faculty," with music, dancing, and speaking. Associate director of admissions Steve Wilborn spoke of the University's "growth" in minority groups, and the need for understanding. Teo Ngatuvai, a senior from Hawaii talked about how students must be outgoing, and Japanese student Wakana Tanaka talked about the culture differences between Japan and America, referencing times she had been inappropriately stereotyped. Freshman Tracy McPate of the Lambda Coalition, an LGBT support organization, talked about how discrimination could be even more rampant on a college campus, and junior Katina Jones discussed how she learned to overcome her own prejudices.
