Students and another staff member who worked with him in the kitchen had already donated blood; there were more who were willing. The students and fellow staff alike showed support for Long durning his stay in the hospital. &lt;a href="https://vcu.exposure.co/remembering-st-philip"&gt;Although Long's race is not identified in the article, St. Philip Hospital and the School of Nursing were both segregated facilities opened to treat people in Richmond's black community, and to educate black nurses.&lt;/a&gt;</text>
