A description of Halloween in The Web 1980 describes students dressed as "Ku Klux Klan members and oil-seeking Arabs." During the week before Halloween, students were also "lectured to on rape prevention." Several students are depicted in culturally appropriative costumes.

On this two page spread for the Southwest Virginia Club at Richmond College, a collage of photographs on page 233 picturing students engaging in activities such as playing instruments and playing sports. On the third row in the far left photo, there is a photo of an individual dressed in a Ku Klux Klan robe. KKK members use the robe to hide their identities and to give an intimidating appearance as they are known for being domestic terrorists. The Ku Klux Klan is a white supremacist organization that is known for lynching and terrorizing African Americans. <a href="https://images.socialwelfare.library.vcu.edu/items/show/279" target="_blank">There was a Ku Klux Klan parade held within the city of Richmond in 1925</a>, the same year this photograph was published in the yearbook.

This article reports on a debate held by the Mu Sigma Rho Literary Society, resolving that the Ku Klux Klan should be abolished. The debate, according to the article, "waxed hot on both sides, the decision finally going to the affirmative." In addition to the debate, the article reports "a song or two" performed by a "black-faced visitor" as well as "a humorous skit in negro dialect." The article cites officers championing the meeting as "one of the best rounded programs in the history of the society."

An account of the resource
This short story, authored by Leslie Jones, is titled "A New Review of an Old Book." The story talks about religion and its interpretations throughout time, often lightheartedly mocking different religions. Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity and the Ku Klux Klan are included in the different descriptions. This parallel of the KKK to world religions shows the sentiments of the time towards the racist group. It reveals that the KKK was regarded as an individual’s spiritual belief and accepted in society. The reference also shows how casual and nonchalant students were towards the Ku Klux Klan, as it appears in a literary magazine. The author, Leslie Jones, was inducted into the honorary writer's fraternity, Sigma Psilon.
