The purpose of the club was to preserve Anglo-Saxon civilization in the United States and to participate in the "intelligent selection and exclusion of immigrants". In a talk given to history students, Powell discussed the "<span>problem of absorption of the negro race by the Anglo-Saxon."</span>&nbsp;and concluded that this would result in the degradation of the "stronger race."
