<text>This article discusses the concert performance that an all-black, male quartet gave for the Richmond community at City Auditorium. and the interview that followed. The quartet known as the Four Mills Brothers "created a new kind of harmony and human orchestrations" as they made their first public appearance in Richmond for an audience of 3,500 people. The quartet consisted of John Mills, Herbert Mills, Donald Mills, and Harry Mills. The author of this article was able to get an interview with everyone except for Harry, as there was a large group of high school girls swarming around the group in hopes of getting autographs. The interview asked how the brothers liked the city, the people in the city, and if they hoped to come back to Richmond to perform again. The brothers said that they liked the city and the people and hoped to return.</text>

Teo Ngatuvai, a senior from Hawaii talked about how students must be outgoing, and Japanese student Wakana Tanaka talked about the culture differences between Japan and America, referencing times she had been inappropriately stereotyped. Freshman Tracy McPate of the Lambda Coalition, an LGBT support organization, talked about how discrimination could be even more rampant on a college campus, and junior Katina Jones discussed how she learned to overcome her own prejudices.</text>

<text>This letter was sent on September 8, 1971, from Robert F. Smart, the Provost of the University of Richmond, to James V. Larkin, the Director of Bands. Smart wrote to Larkin regarding the issue of majorettes (female dancers), participation in the band program; Deans Gehring, Dean Grigg, and Smart discussed this issue with Miss Kidd, who is only mentioned by name but not described in any way. They agreed that Larkin should ultimately decide and that he "should have the maximum of freedom to develop in good taste the presentation [he feels] most appropriate to the members of [his] band and to the University." However, if Larkin decided to have majorettes, the university’s money could not be used to recruit or uniform the majorettes, and he could not offer scholarships or academic credit to majorettes. In addition, Smart wrote that it would be in the university’s best interest for the color bearers to not include the Confederate flag and for Larkin to use discretion in the playing of "Dixie."</text>
