The Glee Club was designed to host "the greatest line of jokes, conundrums, songs, stunts, etc. that can be imagined." The quartet known as the Four Mills Brothers "created a new kind of harmony and human orchestrations" as they made their first public appearance in Richmond for an audience of 3,500 people. The quartet consisted of John Mills, Herbert Mills, Donald Mills, and Harry Mills. The author of this article was able to get an interview with everyone except for Harry, as there was a large group of high school girls swarming around the group in hopes of getting autographs. The interview asked how the brothers liked the city, the people in the city, and if they hoped to come back to Richmond to perform again. The brothers said that they liked the city and the people and hoped to return.</text>

The play was presented by the University Players and the University of Richmond&rsquo;s (UR) Department of Theatre &amp; Dance. It explores the life of the orphaned, Cephus Miles, boy who came to inherit his family's South Carolina farm, and his struggles with deaths in the family, love, his refusal to participate in the Vietnam war, and later, drugs and alcoholism when he moves to the city. Starring in this show are UR's artist-in-residence d.I. Hopkins, Shanea N. Taylor, a student at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and UR's own Stephanie Chandler with direction under Chuck Mike, associate professor of theatre at UR. Cast members share positive remarks about their involvement in this "historic" play.</text>

The article notes that the first part of the performance is a blackface minstrel show performed by men in Richmond College. Minstrel shows were either dances, comic skits, or musical shows performed by white people in blackface. Minstrel shows are performances based off of racial stereotypes which shows what race relations were like during the time period. The title of the article suggest that the performance will make the audience laugh at the jokes made in the show and therefore at the cost of African Americans. In addition to the title, the casual, sarcastic tone of the article downplays the act of performing racial stereotypes.</text>

<text>This <em>Collegian</em> article is a theater review of the production <em>Conquest of My Brother</em> presented by the University Players in November 1975. The reviewer Heath Haworth asserts the play is more of a &ldquo;didactic, preachy documentary&rdquo; rather than a drama, and that &ldquo;the fault was not with the production so much as the play itself.&rdquo; The play tells the story of the 200 year struggle between the Native Americans and the white men and &ldquo;the belief of English tyrants that the destiny of Europe was to dominate this new continent and remove all savages to &lsquo;purify&rsquo; it.&rdquo; Haworth states that the events and information in the play are not &ldquo;new to most informed people,&rdquo; but the play provided &ldquo;gruesome reminders of our treatment of these first Americans&rdquo; and the &ldquo;continuous saga of broken promises&rdquo; between the Native Americans and the white men. The play portrays the scalping of a Native American child as well as the death march of 10,000 Cherokees across the Mississippi River. The play ranges from &ldquo;pointing a sober, accusing finger&rdquo; at the &ldquo;misdeeds&rdquo; of the white man to using &ldquo;humor to show up the idiocy of the white man in his dealings with the red race.&rdquo; The play also portrays the attempt to convert the Native Americans to Christianity.</text>
