Presented were ten proposals that included sponsoring speakers, training residence life staff to understand men's issues, and coordination of a men's week. Braverman wishes there to be a program for men like the WILL program for women. The article discusses the viewpoints of multiple Richmond students, and how they feel about the outcome of the trial. Larry Meli, a senior at the University, said that while he did think what Tyson did was wrong, "[t]he woman should have known what Tyson was like and should not have gone up to the hotel room." Charles Kennon, a junior, and former football player agrees saying, "It seems like she could have used better judgement." Julie Jones, a senior basketball player, says that although it was not the woman's fault for going up to Tyson's hotel room "we as women have to be smarter than that." Patrick Gurney, a sociology professor says that the case was over quite quickly due to the amount of evidence against Tyson. Gurney expressed his agreement with the conviction as he does not believe that one's wealth and fame should put them above the consequences of the law.</text>

<text>This 1988 <em>Collegian</em> article discusses the results of a survey done by a journalism class, where they randomly sampled 359 University students with a telephone poll. Of that number of students, 169 were men while 190 were women. Of that 190, 11 percent or 20 women said that it was "mostly true or somewhat true, that they had been forced to have sex." University Police Chief, Robert C. Dillard said that a majority of the rape cases broke out at the beginning of the school year. Of the 20 women who did say that they had been forced to have sex, only one reported the incident to a friend or roomate. The other women did not because they did not think it was "important" and others thought that people would think it was their fault. Warren P. Hopkins, director of the Center for Psychological Services said that if "a woman expressed her disinterest clearly and aggressively then there is no basis for her to feel guilty." Mary Crotty, assistant dean of Westhampton College states, "if at any point she decided it's not what she wants to do and the man proceeds it is rape." The article also goes on to explain a mandatory orientation session in which scenes were acted out, where some would end in a rape based on whether or not the woman was assertive enough in her disinterest.</text>

He criticized columnist Kirsten Heller's statement that "men (at least on this campus) are not the victims of assault" by referencing the stabbing of a senior male, and argues that men and women have about the same odds against a knife or a gun. He says the safety shuttle exists for women "not because women are assaulted all the time at UR, but because the possibility exists," and says that that "preventative measure" should not be limited to women. His main concern is drunk driving, and says that a similar shuttle for men would curb drunk driving without encouraging alcohol abuse.</text>

Moments in his past are described as, "The beaten black boy, the date-raped freshman, and the threatened homosexual," illustrating him to be a violent homophobe, misogynist, and racist character. The book finally informs him that his girlfriend, Lori, cheated on him with her friend Pete, who is interested in Shakespeare and drama. While he has cheated on Lori all semester, he is infuriated that she does the same and calls her to insult her body and sexuality, mocking her as his "virginal mistress" and a "slut." Winston continuously uses homophobic slurs to address Pete as he sees an image of him dressed as a harlequin, which ultimately leads him to his death.</text>

His race is not identified. After he stops on the side of the road, he begins to make advances on Rebecca and assumedly wants to have sex with her, and they end up in a physical fight. While this ensues, people pass, but accept Jeff's excuse of, "It's domestic, she's my wife." Rebecca escapes and ends up in a hospital, where she learns that Jeff has claimed she attacked him. She reflects on her loss of freedom and decides she will never win. The piece is paired with an untitled photo of three black boys.</text>
