The report stated that there was "significant improvement" in the hiring of more female faculty and staff. David Leary, the dean of arts and sciences at the time, said that this improvement was due to an effort made to increase the amount of women in the applicant pool. Emily Mitchell, a junior, expresses her favor of hiring more female faculty as she says the University should be representative of its population and at that point there were more women enrolled. Several aspects of the report have been discussed and are attempting to be implemented as a committee with the following subgroups was created; curriculum, teaching, sexual harassment, student life, and the status and recruitment of women faculty.</text>

The criteria these are based on academic achievement, IM sports, lodge improvements, new member education, and more. However, Henry Stewart, a Sociology professor, and four other faculty members on the Richmond College Dean's Student Affair Committee, conveyed the faculty's doubts about this year's awards. This is due to the fraternity's poor discretion when advertising rush parties. The fraternities used misogynistic imagery in their party posters. The article also explains that this is a reaction by the faculty to a letter written by Business School instructor Janet Kotler to the <em>Collegian</em> to criticize fraternities. After the faculty committee voted to &ldquo;recommend the institution of sororities at the University,&rdquo; the social life committee reviewed the recommendation and forwarded it to the student affairs committee of the Board of Trustees. Once the Board of Trustees approved the recommendation, Alison Bartel, assistant director of Student Activities, took over the organization of Greek Life on campus and contacted the National Panhellenic Council. A committee was set up in order to review the presentations by each of the (26) national sororities and to vote on which ones were best fit for the University of Richmond. Although there are many who are in favor of establishing sororities on campus, others, like history professor Martin J. Ryle, believe that they will turn out to be exactly like fraternities in that they may be exclusive and harmful to the student social life.</text>

<text>The Special Committee on Racial Discrimination of the Association of American Law Schools published these two reports for 1954. The Interim Report began by recounting how the 1953 Report of this special committee believed that the new committee of 1954 should do its best at achieving the Association's objective of ending racial discrimination in its member law schools and report any non-compliance. Member schools were in noncompliance until they admitted black students or announced their intentions to do so. They had noticed a little progress with the list of non-complying schools going from eighteen to sixteen that year. There were two Virginia schools not in compliance. The final report suggested that because of the recent Supreme Court decision with <em>Brown v. Board of Education</em>, that maybe they shouldn't enforce compliance just yet. The Committee recommended that the Association continues in attempting to persuade compliance with its member schools and consider the effects of the Supreme Court decision.</text>

<text>This article talks about the recent increase in membership in Safe Zone, a group committed to supporting students questioning their sexuality. It talks about how faculty are now displaying Safe Zone stickers on their doors to indicate that they are available to talk with students who may be questioning their sexuality. The program included one-on-one counsel in a partnership with Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), sponsored training for police on how to handle hate crimes, and campus-wide programming to increase awareness. Associate professor of philosophy Ladelie McWhorter said that "as long as society as a whole still discriminates against the rights of individuals based on their sexual orientations, programs like Safe Zone are absolutely essential to support those individuals."</text>
