<text>The article describes the ongoing debate concerning replacing the University of Richmond’s coordinate system with a coeducational one. Dr. George M. Modlin, University President, and Dr. Mary Louise Gehring, Dean of the Westhampton College, spoke to some 200 alumnae about the topic. Modlin highlighted that the decision rests on the Board of Trustees and the incoming president, while Dr. Gehring expressed her opposition to coeducation, but acknowledges that “it might become increasingly workable for us in the future”. Both agreed that they would want difference in the educational institution. The University President pointed out that there are more “University-wide” departments, campus-wide faculty committees and meetings, and that Richmond and Westhampton Colleges have “more uniform” requirements for degrees and admissions. He mentioned that the University Student Union promotes more uniform rules and regulations, and that the Student Planning Association submitted a plan recommending the abolition of the coordinate system, which they said was “antiquated”. Modlin commented that the Westhampton Alumnae Association and the independent departaments at Westhampton strongly oppose centralization.</text>
