Garcia takes issue with the <em>Collegian</em> "promoting homosexuality" in an increased amount of articles regarding homosexuality. Garcia's main point is that the articles in <em>The Collegian</em> should reflect the student body, and the majority of the student body is not homosexual, therefore the paper should change to reflect that. Garcia states that such articles are "placing the University's reputation" with alumni, parents and outside readers in jeopardy.</text>

She describes how life changing the experience was for her, and how there were rarely any other white people, and English was not spoken. Getman explains the importance of the history lessons she took as she was able to read novels written by natives of the island, and see monuments to important natives. Getman also explains the touching story of her host family, who explained that they did not know who their ancestors were because they were abducted in Africa and brought to sugar plantations in the French West Indies. Getman stresses the importance of a study abroad experience for all students, as it changed her life's perspective.</text>

There will be a screening of a film, information tables, a panel discussion and a rally on the Boatwright Lawn. The Campaign for Military Service, a group of LGBTQ+ military veterans will also rally to raise awareness about veterans who are banned from service because of their sexual orientation. The panel discussion will be centered around the question, "What to do when a friend or relative comes out to you?" The film that will be shown is "Torch Song Trilogy" a film about a gay man. In preparation to raise awareness about the events, the Lambda Coalition has hung "pink triangles with the number 350 inside of them all over campus." This number is intended to represent the ten percent of the student body estimated to belong to the LGBTQ+ community.</text>

The Lambda Coalition, another support group for LGBTQ+ students not only wishes for LGBTQ+ students to join but also allies. Meanwhile Common Ground is only open to those who are queer or questioning. The meeting times are kept secret, off campus, and there is a screening process to get into the club. The mindset behind this is to protect students from the stigmas and stereotypes that are seen on campus. It was also mentioned in the article that Richmond was deemed the most homophobic school in the state of VA, and Common Ground's secrecy is an attempt to keep students in the support group safe.</text>
