Title
Yellow Tavern [Short Story]
The Messenger 1928-29
Page 20 (1 of 3)
Description
This short story is about Richmond as the Capitol of the Confederacy and a battle that took place during the Civil War. In the story there is a young girl in love with a black Union solider, who is killed in battle after promising her that he would not let the Confederates kill him. The imagery depicts Richmond as city in turmoil fearing that the end is near and The Union will win: "Now those same blue hordes were hurling their inexhaustible columns against the slowly beating heart-against Richmond. How long, Oh God, how long?"
