John Johnson Spotlight
Dublin Core
Title
John Johnson Spotlight
The Web 1925
Description
This page is a combination of image and text that is a page-long dedication to the service of John Johnson, a black janitor for the University of Richmond. Dr. F.W. Boatwright, president of the University of Richmond, is quoted saying that Johnson was the longest employee living at the University who contributed faithful service to the University and that he hopes that this dedication to Johnson is not deemed inappropriate. The Richmond Times Dispatch quote contends that if Dr. F.W. Boatwright can value the service of a "colored" that the spirit of the institution will change in the future. The quote by the Richmond Times Dispatch suggests that the view of "coloreds" at the University of Richmond were not positive and that Dr. Boatwright and others may be able to change the perception of Blacks at the University of Richmond.
