Op-Ed "Student takes exception to Whitney's 'literature'"
Dublin Core
Title
Op-Ed "Student takes exception to Whitney's 'literature'"
Subject
Description
This Op-Ed was published in The Collegian in 1989 and was written by student John Crooks, class of 1991. This piece is another criticism of student Harvey Whitney and his contributions to the Collegian newspaper. The piece begins with Crooks recalling a time when Whitney seemed more agreeable in terms of his views. Crooks states that he once sympathized with Whitney, but now he finds his writings more and more offensive. Crooks claims that Whitney's writings characterize white people as racist hatemongers while portraying black people as continuously oppressed. Crooks criticises Whitney's pro-Communist views, his black supremacy views, and his anti-religious views. He ends expressing his anger with Whitney's criticisms of the Greek system and expressed his disdain for "...the stereotypes, the hypocrisy and the disdain that I have seen come from your pen..."
