The article “Spider Coaches Sign Prep Stars,” published May 22nd, 1970, is about the basketball recruits for the year. Carlton Mack, Richmond’s first black basketball player was one of these recruits. The article describes his height, and weight and other statistics about Mack. The former basketball coach Lewis Mills said, “We feel all five players were winners in high school, and contributed greatly to their school’s basketball program.”
