Article "SOBA Activities Hampered This Year"

Description

The article “SOBA Activities Hampered This Year” published on December 7th, 1978, describes the decline in Students Organizing for Black Awareness (SOBA) club members, and as a result the few number of events hosted by the club. The former president, Demetri Kornegay is interviewed in the article, and stressed the lack of funding the club received, and the difficulty to hold club meetings because most of the black students were athletes. The article goes on to discuss that due to the small amount of black students that attended University of Richmond, most of SOBA’s events were done in conjunction with Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Union University. Additionally, as a result of the lack of funding, SOBA had to turn to screening movies to celebrate their Black History Week.
