Article "More Black Recruitment Proposed"

Description

The article "More Black Recruitment Proposed," published by The Collegian April 3rd, 1986, discusses whether or not there was a need to recruit more black students. The Students Affairs office would have been in charge of hiring a black minority recruiter who would have been in charge of finding students and keeping them at the University of Richmond. Students held a meeting to elect officers for a black awareness club, hoping that a more public presence would attract black students. Some of the students interviewed said that the cost of the school was a deterrent as not a lot of black families would have been able to afford UR especially because there were few scholarship opportunities for black students who were not athletes. A fear was expressed however that black students segregating themselves would further cause them to be perceived as other.
