Title
Report "Report of the Dean of Students: Richmond College and School of Business Administration"
Subject
Description
This document is a report, "Report of the Dean of Students Richmond College and School of Business Administration," written by William E. Baker, Dean of Students, for the 1970-1971 school year. It discussed student activities such as student government, Greek life, honor societies, religious groups, a rifle team, performance groups, and media organizations; the student center; university student union, university student government association; recommendations to improve Richmond College student life; and Richmond College placement office. Under the student government section, the report praised the Senate on "its initiative in recruiting black students"; they took trips to predominantly black high schools in Richmond, funded a "Black Student Day," and requested that the university band stop displaying the Confederate flag. The report stated that there was a student who was "blackballed" in Phi Beta Kappa elections, so the president requested the National to change election laws to prevent this controversy from happening again; the report does not provide any description of the student. In the margin, someone wrote, "This is inaccurate and beyond any basis for comment by the Dean of Students." Baker also attached a report entitled "Report of Richmond College Placement Activities 1970-1971," a program that helped students with their post-graduate life. This report was written by Ellena Walker, the Placement Officer for Richmond College. The report discussed the problems within the program, such as companies canceling interviews and lack of interest, and offered recommendations to improve the program.
