Title
Yearbook page "Chack Kwong Wong"
Description
This is a picture of Chack Kwong Wong, a senior in the class of 1925. He was from Canton, China. The text accompanying his photograph states, "Coming to us from the far distant Orient, he has adjusted himself to our manners and customs, and leaves us a true and loyal Spider". This text highlights the western perspective of the Chinese students and shows the concept of “othering” when it comes to those “from the far distant Orient”. Chack Kwong Wong is also mentioned in the Collegian as president of the Chinese Club in 1924 and an organizer of a celebration of the fourteenth anniversary of the Chinese republic at the University of Richmond.
