Letter from Dewey E. Dodds to E. Bruce Heilmann
Dublin Core
Title
Letter from Dewey E. Dodds to E. Bruce Heilmann
Subject
Description
In this letter, Dewey E. Dodds in representation of the Office for Civil Rights of the Department of Education informs President E. Bruce Heilman that there had been a complaint filed on January 22, 1981 against the university because according to the complainant the institution was "discriminating on the basis of sex in its athletic program." Based on these allegations, the office determined that they had the authority to investigate the issue, which appeared to fall under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. According to the letter, this amendment "prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs or activities receiving Federal financial assistance." Moreover, Dodds refers President Heilman to Robert E. Harvey, Director of Postsecondary Education Division at the office for future reference if the former has any questions.
