Note "Richmond Afro-American"
Subject
Description
This is a letter from Randy to University President Dr. George M. Modlin. Randy suggests that the university place a 1/4 page ad in the Richmond Afro-American, a black-owned newspaper in the City of Richmond. The ad will be at Modlin's office by August 21st. Additionally, the ad will cost $120. Attached is a receipt from the newspapers. The University of Richmond ran several ads in the Richmond Afro-American after a recommendation from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare (HEW) in 1968. The suggestion was intended to assist the university with compliance with the Civil Rights Act of 1964. A sample of an advertisement from 1968 may be viewed here. The note from Randy has "HEW" handwritten in the top right corner.
