Title
One of the Fallen [Short Story]
The Messenger, Volume XLVI
Page 45 (1 of 6)
Description
In this six-page short story, the anonymous author offers an account of a fire that strikes "Chinatown" in a city in California as a result of an earthquake. The city is near the University of California, Berkeley, and the characters in the story are firemen. The story refers to the citizens of this Chinatown as "Chinamen" who are "swarming the streets," and even pokes fun at the dangerous situation saying that "it would have been laughable to see them scurrying for the slips of the ferries."
