Description
There is an illustration of the Confederate spider on the features section page of the 1960 yearbook. Instead of being dressed in its usual Confederate uniform, it is dressed in a tuxedo. It holds a bouquet of flowers, a wrapped gift, and smokes a pipe. "Confederate Spidey" was the university's "unofficial" mascot from around 1950 to the early 1970s.
