A charge to new students at Richmond College opens with a short story stereotyping Chinese people. An wise "coolie" asks an American traveler questions about the intentions of his journey to China. The author then asks new students their motives for coming to Richmond College. The slur "coolie" indicates an unskilled indentured laborer of East Asian descent.
