Guest Column "Awareness Week is over; fight to raise awareness still necessary"
Dublin Core
Title
Guest Column "Awareness Week is over; fight to raise awareness still necessary"
Description
Written by guest columnist Heidi Ziglar, this piece shares the difficulties of wrapping up “Rethinking Rape” week at the University of Richmond. Ziglar notes her appreciation for the awareness efforts during the week, yet expresses frustration at clichés she received throughout the week. Ziglar explains that “women who are victims of violent crimes such as rape and sexual assault did nothing wrong, so why do they need courage to be honest?” Expressing the burden of shame that many rape victims carry, Ziglar voices her “disgust and anger” at a student body apathetic to “the crime’s existence.”
