Title
Article "Consideration of Sororities Asked: Collegian Discusses Fourth Plank in Platform; Keller Stand Explained"
Subject
Description
The Collegian proposed a list of changes regarding university activities, which included the issue of installing national or local sororities at Westhampton College. The proposal for this change was backed up by arguments such as the idea that sororities would “‘bring out’ hidden potentialities in girls,” in addition to drawing more students to apply to the university. Dean May L. Keller was approached about the subject and conveyed a sense of support for bringing sororities to the university. However, Dean Keller states that she, “does not believe that Westhampton is at present large enough for it.” She also states that, “previous votes of the Westhampton student body on the subject of sororities had indicated that the groups were not given a majority vote."
