Nonfiction "The N Word"
Dublin Core
Title
Nonfiction "The N Word"
Description
The writer of this piece questions her black identity in the form of asking if she is allowed to say the "n word." While she feels unable to because of her middle/upper class upbringing, she relays anecdotes such as her sister straightening her hair for a corporate interview that establish she has still experienced discrimination despite her class. At the end of the piece, she questions whether being American and a victim of slavery are mutually exclusive and where she belongs if it is the case.
