Article "Union voters picked; election dates fixed"

Description

This article concerns the University of Richmond and the union representing the Food Service workers agreement on voting eligibility in the union election, according to Debra Creech, local 157 union organizing director. All service and maintenance employees will be eligible to vote, with the exception of supervisors and casual employees. The election date is set for January 27 and 28. Additionally, Creech says she has filed three charges against the University with the National Labor Relations Board, the most recent being the three-day suspension of Dining Hall worker Betty Carmon. Carmon claims her suspension was unfair harassment for her support and advocacy of the union. The other two charges dealt with previous firings of Food Service employees due to pro-union activities. Rob Inlow, director of Food and Auxiliary Services, asserts that he does not want this issue to develop into an “us” and “them” situation.
