Opinion "America is not a Western Civilization"
Dublin Core
Title
Opinion "America is not a Western Civilization"
Description
This opinion piece written in February of 1992, by freshman Paul Caputo, explains how the United States is not a Western Civilization in response to an opinion piece written by Scott Shepard saying that a Western Civ. class should be mandatory for students. Caputo argues that it is "impossible to justify making Western Civ. mandatory without giving the same consideration to African, Asian and Middle Eastern Civ." They stress how many cultures and histories make up the American people and there is a need to learn about other cultures in order to break down the barriers of racism.
