Dublin Core
Title
Article "Vernon Archie Dies of Stroke Early Tuesday"
Description
This Collegian article announces the sudden passing of equipment manager, Vernon Archie. Hired as a janitor of Millhiser gym in 1960, Archie was recognized for keeping the gym spotless. He was promoted to equipment manager in 1964. He was described as "an inspiration to all the athletic teams" and "was the center of every victory celebration in Millhiser." Although Archie's race is not stated in the article, the funeral home listed for his service, O.F. Howard's, was a black owned funeral home in Richmond and likely catered to black residents only during the era of segregation.
