Title
Article "Majority of Accepted Men Enroll at Richmond College"
Description
This article from the Collegian examines admissions statistics from the Richmond College freshman class. Of the 1300 men who applied to Richmond college, 669 were accepted as new students and transfers, and 65% of those accepted chose to enroll. When questioned about the qualified students being entirely white, Richmond College admissions director Thomas Pollard remarked that it would be more accurate to say "that no negroes are admitted rather than saying only whites are qualified" because there are several "oriental" students enrolled at the university. Although athletes, Baptists, and children of alumni were given special consideration, the article noted that deans reminded that they must still meet certain qualifications. Pollard additionally noted that current students seemed better qualified than those of the past.
