Article "U.S. veterans rally for gay rights in the military"
Dublin Core
Title
Article "U.S. veterans rally for gay rights in the military"
Subject
Description
The article talks about a rally on Boatwright lawn staged by the Campaign for Military Service, a group of gay and lesbian military veterans participating in a tour called "Tour of Duty" around 34 college campuses (UR was the group's 24th stop). Alan Stephens, who was forced to leave the military when he came out as gay, wants people "to think more rationally about homosexuals in the military." Scott Boykins, who served with the Navy in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, stated that "we're all punished for who we are and what we feel and not for what we did." The demonstration was interrupted by senior Charlie Kennon, who called it an "abomination under God." ROTC students were told not to wear uniforms to "protect them from harassment."
