Opinion "'No comment' sends message"
Dublin Core
Title
Opinion "'No comment' sends message"
Subject
Description
In this 1991 Collegian opinion piece, author Katherine Clark writes in response to a "That's What You Think?" section where UR students appeared with blank spots, no pictures and excuses in ability to answer the question, "How would you feel about about a gay/lesbian/bisexual student organization on the UR campus?" The lack of response shows the sentiments towards the newly formed Lambda Coalition, a group that is a support network for gays and lesbians on campus. Clark says that the lack of response shows that people themselves feel to be unaffected by the issue, and their silence sends a message to gays and lesbians on campus that they are unwelcome. Clark writes that message of the "That's What You Think Section" is homophobic and shows the narrow-mindedness of certain UR students.
