Title
Article "'John Brown's Body' Scheduled by UR Players for April 18-21"
Subject
Description
This article from the Richmond Times-Dispatch was published on April 9, 1961 on page F-7 of the newspaper. The author highlighted the details of the performance, such as an 8:15 PM start time and seperate performances for alumni and the general public. The article also references Professor Alton Williams's three-year attempt to stage the production. "John Brown's Body" is not a conventional play; rather it is a series of poems linked together by the Civil War. Each of the three white actors cast as Readers were responsible for representing many characters throughout the night, one of which was Cudjo, a slave. A photograph of the three Readers in rehearsal is also included in the article.
