Title

Opinion "This Merits Thought"

Description

This opinion piece, published on February 14, 1964, addressed the recently changed admission policy to allow black students to enroll in graduate night classes that take place at University College. This piece argues that full-scale integration of the University is inevitable even if the University, and the state at large, is not ready. The writer argues that recent Supreme Court decisions, "tend more towards integration" and that the federal mandate to integrate schools will soon be universal. The writer asserts that integration should not be forced upon the University, but that segregationists should accept it peacefully when it does come. It notes "If integration is forced on us only violence and disunity will result."
