Title

1917 Senior Law Introduction Page
The Spider 1917

Description

Introduction page for the 1917 “Senior Law” section features an illustration of a white man dressed in a nice suit carrying a book and an African-American man dressed in tattered overalls and a shirt. The white man has his hand extended out towards the African American man as he reaches into his pocket. The facial expressions of the white man are judgmental and his body language is arrogant. In contrast, the African-American man's facial expressions appear confused and his body language is awkward and timid. The illustration is significant because the way the two men are portrayed emphasizes the two distinct and different racial roles between African American and white people in society during this time period.
